What is a charity garden?

Aalmoestuin is an ironic designation that originated in June 2014 following a suggestion from the Dutch State Secretary for Social Affairs and Employment to start a vegetable garden as a supplement to the pension.

This term is used to express criticism of the idea that people should be self-sufficient by maintaining a vegetable garden, especially in the context of insufficient pension provisions.
