What is an airbag (financial term)?

Indication for a (partial, conditional) protection of the invested capital up to an agreed percentage of the principal (on the maturity date). This protection is dependent on a maximum decline in the price of the underlying asset. The airbag ensures that a possible loss on the final maturity date is mitigated, which is especially useful in volatile market conditions.
