What is an agio stock?

A form of stock dividend where the distribution to shareholders is financed from a company's share premium reserve. This means that new shares are issued and distributed among the shareholders without the profit reserves being affected. Instead, the share premium reserve, which has been built up by issuing shares above the nominal value, is used to make this distribution possible.
