What is an active portfolio?

An (securities- or investment-) portfolio in which a lot of trading takes place. This means that the investor frequently makes changes to the composition of the portfolio, for example by regularly buying and selling securities (e.g. shares, ETFs, bonds). The goal of an active portfolio is often to achieve extra returns by capitalising on market movements and opportunities.
