What are asset classes?

An asset class is a category of investments that exhibit similar characteristics and fall under the same or comparable rules. Asset classes include instruments that often behave similarly in the market.

Traditional asset classes include stocks, bonds, real estate and cash. Nowadays, commodities, derivative instruments (derivatives) and sometimes even cryptographic money are also counted among the asset classes.
