Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need. In one app. In one place. All goals and strategies, always at hand.
How do I start self-employed pension investing with Vive?
In three steps. You register via the sign-up page, or first book a 30-minute introduction. You then answer a few questions about your income, your situation and your pension goal, so we can build a strategy around you. Finally we complete the CDD/KYC check. For zzp'ers and entrepreneurs your account is usually ready within 1 to 2 working days. Want more detail? Read pension for entrepreneurs.
How long before I have a Vive account?
For private individuals starting to invest, the account can be ready within an hour. For companies, zzp'ers and entrepreneurs it is usually 1 to 2 working days, excluding weekends.
Lead time is driven mainly by the CDD/KYC check carried out after registration. We try to create the account the same day, but the check can sometimes take longer. Many employers deliberately schedule the start later, to inform their team first. Start via begin with Vive.
What are my pension options as a DGA?
Since pension in eigen beheer was abolished in 2017, as a DGA you have broadly three routes:
- A lijfrente in the third pillar. You contribute privately or from your net salary and deduct it within your jaarruimte. This is the most commonly used route.
- A pension scheme via your own BV with an insurer or PPI, in the second pillar.
- Business investing from the BV. No tax relief on the contribution, but flexible access.
Many DGAs combine the first and third routes. See pension for entrepreneurs and business investing, and discuss the fiscal trade-off with your accountant.
What are the benefits of pension investing?
Four advantages over ordinary saving or investing:
- Deduction. Your contribution is deductible from your taxable income within your jaarruimte and reserveringsruimte.
- No box 3. During the accrual phase your pension capital does not count towards wealth tax.
- Deferred taxation. You only pay tax once the benefit starts, often at a lower rate.
- Return. Over a long horizon, investing generally offers more growth potential than saving.
Against that, your money is locked until your retirement date and the value can fall. Also read the drawbacks of pension investing.
What is the advantage of a pension scheme for the self-employed at Vive?
Every lijfrente provider offers the same tax advantage; the difference lies in costs and execution. At Vive:
- No transaction costs and no deposit fees, so your full contribution is invested.
- A personal strategy based on an ALM model, rather than a standard model portfolio.
- Full flexibility in what you contribute, including free pausing.
- Everything in one app, with insight into your accrual and projection.

Is pension investing deductible for self-employed persons?
Yes. If you stay within your jaarruimte and reserveringsruimte, you deduct your contribution from your taxable income in box 1, under 'uitgaven voor inkomensvoorzieningen'.
You deduct at your bracket rate, up to 49.50% in 2026. In addition, the capital you build does not fall into box 3 during the accrual phase. You only pay income tax once the benefit starts. Calculate with the jaarruimte calculator.
